About Us

Come for the Cut, Stay for the Story

Come step into Durango’s speakeasy experience since 2015.

More than a barbershop. More than a bar.
A story waiting to be told.

Step Into the Story

Tucked away in the heart of historic downtown Durango, The Bookcase and Barber isn’t just a place — it’s an experience.

Rooted in history and elevated by imagination, we invite each guest to become part of something memorable, mysterious, and undeniably local.

One for the Pour, One for the Polish

By daylight, The Bookcase and Barber presents itself as a refined barbershop—offering classic cuts and precision grooming in an atmosphere inspired by timeless sophistication.

But as the evening unfolds and shadows stretch, our space transforms. Hidden behind the original bookcase, whisper the password, and enter Durango’s only true speakeasy bar.

From traditional highballs to thoughtfully crafted signature cocktails, every drink on our menu has a story, each one curated to match the spirit of our guests and the character of our past.

More Than a Speakeasy

The Bookcase and Barber is proud to serve the people of Durango and its visitors with distinction and intention. Whether you’re here for a fresh fade or a cocktail inspired by literary legends, our goal is to craft something unforgettable — not just for a single visit, but for stories that stay with you long after you leave.

Welcome to The Bookcase and Barber — where every detail matters, and every story has a seat.

Built on Heritage, Designed for Experience

Our space was once an independent bookstore, known to Durango as The Bookcase since 1981. When we opened The Bookcase and Barber in 2015, we kept the charm of the old shop alive while rewriting the next chapter around it — one centered on craftsmanship, connection, and community.

We believe that stories aren’t just told in books or over cocktails; they’re lived in every haircut, every pour, and every conversation across our bar.

Celebrating over 10 years of service, we’ve become more than just a local fixture — listed alongside the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and Mesa Verde as a must-see destination.
